hello all,
I have win2k professional with IIS as my webserver and I am trying to install yabb se but I am lost. I am not very knowledgeable working with servers but I have a discussion group I would to have take advantage of this messageboard.  I was told that I need a web address but if I have a static IP do I have to pay a webservice for theirs? Also I have mysql and PHP installed. I installed PHP from php.net/downloads.php 4.1.1 installer. I downloaded the messageboard in c:/inetpub/wwwroot/yabbse  I called the install.php script from my website xx.xx.xx.xx./yabbse/install.php  and followed the instructions and it said I completed the installation, but it comes up with a whole bunch of errors at the top and then it displays the interface at the bottom. Please forgive my ignorance. Any help with the installation would be greatly appreciated.

If you can copy and Paste the error messages here I'll be able to give you a better response.

Also you might want to ask this question on the message board at www.yabb.info  - They can probably give you a better explaination then I can.

Warning: Undefined variable: step in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\yabbse\install.php on line 25
The following message is received after I start the installer.

Warning: Undefined index: DOCUMENT_ROOT in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\yabbse\install.php on line 27
This program will install YaBB SE if you have PHP running in safe mode on your webserver

... and then once I follow all the instructions I receive the following.

Warning: Undefined variable: skip in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\yabbse\install.php on line 290
An administrator account has been created, you can now proceed to your newly created board.

     Installation complete.
Good luck!
The YaBB SE team.

Sure, you can either email it to me or Hop on MSN IM for a second. -

Honestly though I don't think the Board was really designed for IIS - If possible you might want to start using the Apache Web server on your windows machine.  It's fairly straight forward to setup - and their won't be these additional problems.

Because you are doing this locally their could be issues with the mySQL setup, the PHP setup and/or combinations.  If this is your first time installing everything it will be tough.

I would recommend trying to get a couple of php scripts running first under IIS, then maybe try to connect to the database - just to make sure that part is running.

Again I think that the board would be easier to install under Apache instead of IIS - But technically it should still work under IIS.

The three Major Message boards - Yabb, Ikonboard, and vBulletin are all based on PHP and mySQL so you will probably have the same problems with all of them - but you may want to consider trying out at least the Ikonboard - and see if the install goes any easier.  I think the links for those are Ikonboard.com and vbulletin.com

Thanks i have looked at all of them and I like the look and options of yabb. I have PM you the IP. I ran the phpinfo(); script and it says that mysql is enabled.  I ran a script to access a db in mysql and it ran fine I also did a basic time script in PHP and it returned the proper information so it seems to be working fine in that regard.
Thanks.

Just tried it again, got the same error message.  - Can you get to that page when you type in that URL in the browser.  Do you have a firewall going.

Yeah I can get to it. I just open up IE and  type in the address and I am there.  Anything I should do as far as giving permissions in IIS or sharing files or something like that?

I still can not get to it - I'm not sure why this is, technically it should be showing up as long as your server is running.  I'll try again.

Just so you know - It's about the easiest thing in the world to capture someone's IP if they visit just about any page on the internet -  Just look in the bottom right hand side of any of your post's - It will display your IP.  I believe it is the same on you gave to me - minus the path to the yabb install.

I went to local security policy and changed the security to permit incoming packets hopefully that does it if not then dont worry about. I thank you again for your time.
