Saving and retrieving data transparently using AS3 scripts

I found that the easiest and flexible way of saving data and retrieving it later is by means of a dll called FlashXbridge from singularcollections.

Data can be saved in a raw form or as named strings, numbers and arrays.
This dll has 20 functions that allow easy handling of disk files.

In addition it offers other interesting functions.

But this is limited to windows OS on a local machine - isnt it?
