Hi,

I am very new to Flash 5 (1 week). I am trying to figure out how to make
a web site that looks good in 800x600 resolution and 1024x768 resolution. I
have been checking out tons of Flash sites and I am seeing a lot of
different approaches. Some are telling their visitors that the site is
optimized for a certain resolution, while others are giving 2 portals to the
site to accomodate the different resolutions. There have also been some
sites that are 98% identical at 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions. The 2%
being the obvious increase in content size and a slight need to scroll down
to see the rest of the page. I am trying to make a cross resolution Flash
web site where visitors don't have to choose anything, they just the goods
right there. So far, I have not been able to keep the site uniform at the
different screen resolutions. If it it looks good in 800x600 then I change
to 1024x768 the web site is smaller and vice versa (but bigger).

This site here: http://www.giganticx.com/flash/index.html is exactly what I
am looking to do. (just the main flash page). I tried this site in both
resolutions and they are almost the same. Just the need to scroll down a
bit. Like I said, I am very new to Flash 5, but I am also very ambitious. I
am realistic and know that it may take a year or more of learning to even come
close to this site, but I got to start somewhere. Do I need to add some
actionscript to do this? I would be very appreciative of any help that I
get. Thanks, kmjk

I am also very new to flash but the only thing that you can (that I know of) really do to make your flash content of your website look good in both 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 resolutions is this...

The stretch property of your video and its original size are the only things (again that I know of) that you can factor in.  If you want the video to be identical and have the scrolling @ 800 x 600 like you said, then you must make the video the size you want it in 1024 x 768 resolution and make the stretch property of the movie to false...that way the movie will not be shrunk to where parts of it are too small to look good.  You can also make the flash movie full screen @ 800 x 600 and set the stretch property of your video to true.  Now if you do this then you have to check and make sure that the stretch doesn't make it look bad.  I would suggest the latter or just take the root that many people do, in saying ..."If you don't run @ this resolution then it is your fault...."  In doing this you must first look @ the subject matter of your site and what group of people you are trying to attract.  If you are attracting gamerz or computer tech people, then good. But if you are attracting everyday people, old people with not so great vision, or people that would not ( or could not) run there computer @ the required resolution of 1024 x 768 then you might want to steer clear of this method.  Many people now are running there computers @ 1024 x 768.  Oh, and in my opinion, many things look better @ 1024 x 768.  I hope this gives you some input and some ideas to what path you will take.  Again read a pros advice too, because I am really just a begginer.
