hello Daarin,

I have tested you're files and i had the problem too.

It could be that there is a bug so that it can't load dynamic textfields into target clips (nut sure)

I have a solution though:

The Guestbook.swf isn't loaded into a targetclip but onto a level.

Example:

Level 0 is mainmovie (background ect)
Level 1 is the menu-nav
level 2 (and above) is all the content loaded from menunav command including the guestbook.

In that way everything will work fine, then you're problem is solved.

I'm not sure if this is a solution for you, i will try to get this thing to work but maybe you can try this alternative, and save you alot of anger... Smiley

regards

Okay, I've got it working, thanks for the help.  As it turns out, you have to have the GuestBook.swf in the same file folder as the base html file that your site is running from.  A simple little tidbit that should be incluced into these help files.

Hey everyone,

I have the same problem with the guestbook when i try to access it when loaded into a level .
When adressed from within a html-file it works fine but from a level it does absolutely nothing.
I noticed that some people here have the same issues.
Is there a solution to this problem , i tried to download the adjusted .FLA but I get the 'unexpected file format' when I try to open it. What version of Flash was it written in?

I'll try and help you through this one, I've learned quite a bit about that GuesBook over the last week or so.

First of all, what no one tells you is that the GuestBook.fla and it's txt file have to be in the same directory as your main html that plays all of your swf files.

try and be specific about your problem and I'll walk you through it.

Well , apparently that was the mayor problem that was blocking the guestbook from working properly. I owe you one !  Grin

PEOPLE...if you read the tutorial or any documentation........hmmmm......the thread that is always at the top of this topic....you would realize that it is clearly stated that in order for the guestbook to work properly you have to have the file in the same directory.  So for those of you that think that you have not been told....you should try and read/do the tutorials rather than just copying our source files, you learn alot more and can avoid alot of problems.

I am sorry that I have not been on the boards lately otherwise I would have seen this and help you guys out alot earlier.  Sorry about that...I am a full time student and it makes it hard to put in time.

Well, if you're going to single me out there, my friend, I would have to come back and say that if you think its so plainly stated in the tutorial on how to install it then I would have to ask this question.

Why do you think this topic is always at the top of this list?  I submit to you that its because its not stated as well as you might think.  Just because you think its simple and stated very well, doesn't make it so.

Hi Guys

I cant get this updated verion to download correctly
it tells me "access is denied" and I tried it on 3 different computers

would it be a terrible bother for someone to just cut and paste the new load frame text?
so I can load it from any level
I love the application by the way!

thanks so much in advance

I also had trouble with my GuestBook loaded into a clip.
I solved it by changing some text in the PHP-script though not being a PHP-programer.

Look for the "print.." line and add "_root.mc.mc..." before "..GuestBook=" and the other variables.

Yup. after I played with the new fla submitted at the begining of this thread I got things to work for my guestbook. i call it a shout!box though. i like it better than guestbook.

check it at www.rjmsanctum.com . the button is on the top right corner.

Hi,
this file seems to be exactly, what i've been working on. Anyways i still have a little issue about including it into my site:

everything works fine, but when i click on the "next 10" button, it seems to hang up, while the first 10 entries were shown imediately (i a sure it doesnt hang, but i think no variables are returned). SIgning in is no problem as well, but the "pages" issue is getting on my nerves :O

The point is that when i run the script as "standalone", no such problems occur.
In my page i load the gbook swf from external into a a movieclip container.

I got no clue why things are happening to me like this.
And i would appreciate any help!

Thanx in advance!!!
