I downloaded this thing a while back, and
have just started experimenting with it.

It Works Perfectly!
I've been learning quite a lot fro it.
Thank you.

I do have a question about how the php
limits the size of the text file, that it is writing to.

If I understand what I'm looking at correctly,
the size or length of the text file is limited according to
the byte size of the file ie: 80000b or 80kb.
After that, it starts dumping the old entries
off the bottom as it were, so as to maintain that size.

...errr, right?

Now, What I wan to know is this.
Rather than counting the bytes, and using that information
to limit the length of this file, can I have it count the arrays instead,
and cut it off at say, 2 or 3 hundred arrays?

Thank you in advance! Smiley

Hi Larry,
sure you can.
But if you want a guestbook with many entries, and possibly editable, you should consider the version 2 type with database support Wink

Can you give me a hint, as to what to search for, please?
I've started with "limit entries" in the guestbook forum.

If there is a better term for what I am looking for, it would
help knowing that.

Thanks again Smiley

Hi
I'm new here.
Great tutorial.!
But I seem to have a little problem.
I created my own guestbook, but when i placed a message, the info was not loaded
into the guestbook.txt file. And the guestbook window on my browser was
saying 'processing....loading new.....' forever

Then I uploaded the downloadable guestbook files, and the same thing happened!

I figured it must have something to do with my server or so, but I cannot solve it.
I have set the guestbook.txt file into 777 permission, and my server suitable for php, so I checked.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Jelle

Hi all,

This is the first time for me on this site and its amazing to go through the site. I came accross the guestbook and tried it. Its giving me error while testing the movie, i am able to enter data into the database and eveyrthing is working fine. But, the entries are not being displayed in the view box. It's just showing as 'Loading entries... Please wait...' in the view box and also it is giving error like 'Error opening URL "file:///C|/webs/test/GuestBook.php?action=read&r=489&NumLow=0". I am using the original version of GuestBook V2.0 php script with mySQL.

any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated....

thanks.
