Mysql problem

i have this problem logging into my mysql server on localhost
here is what i did at commandline:

C:\Mysql\bin>mysql -h localhost -u root -p
Enter password: ********
ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@127.0.0.1' (Using password: YES)

password is correct

anyideas?
