Flash MX 2004 - List Component - custom list object

I am trying to use the list component in Flash MX 2004. I specifically would like to use a custom list item in the scroll box. I have found the directions for adding the component, however, I do not know how to populate the cutom item. Does anyone know how to populate the list component with a custom Movie Clip. It mentions using the cellRenderer Interface, but then becomes very vague. If anyone would know of an example that would be perfect.
