    Something about Flash
    « on: 08/09/02, 11:20 »
    Hi,
I am a doing a technical review. I want to develope a graphical website with database supported. It comes to my mind to use Flash as the layout and if it so, I would need to use some scripting language to make the connection with the database. This is the idea I have in mind.

However, I need to update the product information(shown in image format) in the homepage very often.

    I have few questions now:
    1) I wonder whether I need to re-design the Flash layout design whenever I'm updating the graphical product image ?

    2) Will it be possible to directly store the reference link of the image in the database, then I just need to update the reference link in the database so as to meet the updating need.

3)Can I use Flash alone without any script language to finish this project?

4)Or is there any other suggestion on my problem?

    Thanks

    Cheryl

    Hi Cheryl,

    1. - no
    2. - yes
    3. - no

Flash is a graphical frontend using basicly the internet technology.
Flash can read from files, if the files have the right format.
But flash has no dataconnect engine. This is usualy done by a middleware, like php, perl or asp scripting.

If you are a good old fashoined programmer generating whatever output out of a database, you will find a way (with any language available on your system).

If it is a limited amount of data, you can provide in in sequetual files.

    Just think about it. ;D

    happy flashing

Also keep in mind that you need to know a little of ActionScript, at least the loadVariables() and getURL() issues.
If you think carefully about the design of the all system, you gaign a lot of time, cause when the system grows, you don't need to make extra effort. So, take your time.

    Good Luck
