Maximum Flash File size for Website?
    « on: 06/27/07, 08:44 »
    Hello everyone,

I finally finished my flash site- and just thought that the file size may be too big. Whats the ideal target for a flash movie file? Mine is 350kb... Thoughts? Suggestions? FYI, it's a photography website..

    Thank you,

    Charisma

Allways think of all the people not having fast internet access. There are users still accessing the internet with 56k modem.

With flash you have everything you need to make it modular.

Load a preoloader first, to show your visitor, that something is happening.

Load content, as it is needed (pictures only where you need them - and in the size they are displayed).

Allwas, if something is loaded, tell it to your visitors. Visitors with slow connections know, that they will see some status, or load information, before they can see content.
But this is the least they can expect.
    happy flashing

hey hi Charisma!! welcome aboard!!! yep i agree with ronald, use a preloader but mostly buit by your self, adobe or macromedia components add much more file size....btw think in using flex 3, it has a new feature, it can now be cached within the flash player...who knows flex sites loading even faster than flash ones (yep it should be viceversa)...

    cheers!!
halemos de flash en espaņol!....wondering about crazy flash experiments?

Do you think that these dyas you still need to design with people on 56k in mind?

Or perhaps people using mobile phones (directly or as modems) are the new 56k?

There are still people living on slow lines.
And especialy mobiles are often not as fast as expected.

But this does not realy limit the number of flash files.
It is just more of a chalange organising them, and offering only, what people will need.

Granular development ist allways a wise direction to go.
    happy flashing
