I got this email from a USA based PHP list I had subscribed some time ago. Weekly some recruiters email hit the list and sometimes this is annoying. Some otf the fellows in the list was angry with this, and Eric Leschinski wrote this:
Here are some interesting "Recruiter tactics" all tech people should watch out for, I have personally experienced all of these before I gave up on recruiters for good:
"resume fishing", you get a form letter for a vague job, you message them, they nab your resume, and it joins a huge pool of resumes. All this person wanted was your resume, they have no intention of using you to fill that job. Then another arm of the business does keyword search over the database of resumes, and then you are called if they match your resume. It explains the phenemenon where you reply to recruiters and there is no action for weeks.
"Oreo cookie maneuver " Several low quality applicants are sent in for an interview, then one top notch candidate is sent in, followed by a group of more low quality applicants. Most the applicants (you) are the roughage in the oreo cookie maneuver, only one candidate gets to be the creamy filling, and that person knows who he is, if you are not sure you are this person, you are not them. This is done to lower the expectations of the companies who ultimately pay for placement.
"Bait and switch" you are lured in with a fictitious job at a prestigious company that they don't have a connection with, then too bad it falls through when they send in your resume, then they get you in for some below average companies.
"High pressure psychological tricks" The recruiter makes the interviewee feel as if they have achieved a victory, and that all that has to happen now is the final few things to hook things up! Then they contact you the most ridiculous way possible, calling you at odd hours, using a mode of communication that is very inefficient so you play phone tag. Recruiter not reachable. The same thing happens when you have a hungry dog, you can train the doggie to be in desparation mode by dangling a treat close the dog's mouth, it salivates and leaps toward the bone, and you yank it away at the last minute! Repeat this several times to get the dog into cowering and desparation mode. So it will do anything just to make the pain go away, they don't realize the owner is causing the pain. This can be done on humans as well. The objective being to get the target to take a bad job they otherwise would have laughed at.
Funny but real ... specially the first one. What about your country?
